Long Week

I thought the election would never end. Thank god that the mailings, commercials and all that crap is over. I think there should be a limit placed on how early campaiging can begin. A big hooray that Palin will go home. Just maybe she’ll now practice some ‘traditional family values’ and raise her kids. I just don’t get absentee parenting by choice. It’s not that I’m sexist, I just think there should be consistensy in parenting. And there was no way she could be a ‘mom’ as the VP. She has a baby for christs sake! I know that Obama won’t exactly be available for his kids, which is sad, but I don’t honestly think that will be a huge change for them.

We’ve been having stormy weather all week, and the other night we had our first power outage of the season. That same night Sunny broke her collar and took off on a run. Dark, rainy, windy. She got into something, which caused her to have violent sneezing attacks that lasted all night long. A trip to the vet next day found nothing wrong, thank goodness, and she’s all better. Whew! Its so horrible watching a child or an aanimal in distress.
It looks like Richard’s knee was an attack of pseudogout. Its better, kind of, but yesterday he went in and got a shot to alleviate some other pain in there. Surgery will likely be in the future, due to a torn miniscus inside I think. bleh

The fearmongering just won’t end. Is it really here to stay? Cripes, there was a hideous ad that we saw for a child locator, which works when you just can’t watch your kid for that second when the perp swoops down to get ’em. ( it works from a few hundred feet away to within one inch! – is that in case the kid is on the other side of the tree hiding from you????)They want us to believe that the Big Brother thing is just plain normal – you need to be able to spy on your kids, the nanny, cars running red lights, citizens on public streets, parking lots, etc. Those red light cameras are a revenue generator, nothing more. I’ve never seen one placed in an intersection that has a high rate of accidents. This crap makes me nuts.  I kind of like my privacy, and anonymity thank you.

We are now starting the waiting game. We’ve delivered things to a couple banks, and only time will tell if this will pan out. Just maybe now I can begin catch up on all things neglected while we’ve been focusing on this stuff. There is still information to gather, but only a little compared to what we’ve collected over the past couple months.  I think the biggest thing that may stand in the way would be this economy. Everything is so bleak out there.

Right now I’m not liking the fact that to find a new pair of jeans, or shoes, or ?? I need to go to the Big City. Some things you gotta try on. The nearest shopping options are Fred Meyer and JC Penney. Swell. Living in the country has limitations sometimes.

Justification for a picture

Yesterday we took Mom to her sisters’ house near Westport. It was a nice drive, and good to get out of the house and do something other than work on ‘the plan’. Along the way there is this beautiful farm between here and South Bend, in a pretty valley with cows, a stream, pasture.    I think of my friend Rose every time we drive by.

Catalog season has officially started. Now that Halloween is behind us, its a no holds barred on the mailings.

Today we dropped our ballots off. I think that there should be early voting everywhere. I kinda wish we were someplace where we could go and watch the returns in a  festive manor. I’m so sad that Obama’s grandma died today.  That has to ramp up the emotions by a factor of 10.  Watching the news all the candidates are looking so tired. This had certainly been an endurance test – on the American public as well.

So Rose, this is for you. I miss having friends near.

Generally I don’t get political – but I don’t know if it’s because we are watching more tv than in the past ( there’s no daily paper to sit and pour over ) so CNN is on in the mornings here.  But, I am following election stuff closer than I have in years. We’ve watched the debates on both sides, and my big complaint so far is that Edwards dropped out.  Some of the others who have dropped out seems like no surprise to me. Well, I am stunned to learn that here in Washington if you want your vote for a democrat to count, you have to go and vote at a caucus! They print the names on the mailed out absentee ballot that we got, but if you only check a box there, it wont be counted! I wonder if that’s common knowledge, but it almost seems as though they don’t really want your voice. In the local weekly paper, it said that we can go to the high school on Saturday afternoon to attend the caucus. “And though it might inconvenience some voters, it is designed to be a party building experience.”  I don’t need or want a freaking ‘party building experience’!!!     What about people who can’t get there for any number of reasons: retirement or nursing home, work, ill, etc? Their vote is simply not taken. That seems just wrong. POO!
I don’t define myself by any one particular ‘party’ – the candidate is who is important.Maybe if there was the Common Sense Party, I would join. Probably not though.  I hate the labels of a ‘left leaning republican’ , or a ‘(wacky) independent’ . or  whatever. Maybe I really just have no understanding and should take some sort of political science course. They likely covered more of that after the point that I left school.  So, because I really feel like I want my vote to be for something, I will go on Saturday and make my mark in person. I still think it’s stupid that if your vote won’t count if you use the piece of paper that the state sent to you then why did they bother putting names on it in the first place????

moving on.

Today the new floor was laid in the bathroom, and Richard put up the new light fixture. I got all of the wallpaper off over the weekend and textured the portions of the wall that will be exposed. Yesterday I finished painting in there.
My big news is that I have finished in our bedroom. Wallpaper – gone. Fabric on the walls that I put up unsuccessfully – gone. New paint in the whole room – done. And now the final painting is done as well. Here is a shot of the finished project:

I am happy with the results – the brighter yellow isn’t dayglow like it kind of looks there. The other three walls are a really pale yellow. Ten years from now, I may hate it, but at this point it’s just what I was after ( I modeled it after a piece of fabric that is in completely different colors).     The bathroom pics will come after it is all finished. Which should be the end of next week – we are driving to Seattle Monday to pick up the countertop and the mirror and stuff. I can also begin to work on the guest room now. I dread stripping more wallpaper, but I’ve gotta do it.

Next week is also Valentines’ day and my surprise for Richard is a package that arrived today from www.lillebellefarms.com  . A bit of a splurge, but if you like caramels – they’re the best I’ve ever had and worth every penny.

Ryan is driving out tomorrow to spend the weekend – it will be nice to have some company for a few days.
