So the day after Valentine’s and I’m still in the spriit so I’m sharing a couple of pictures. The first is of a quilt that goes on the bed this time of year – I made it for our anniversary six years ago ( it’s comprised of over 1300 little rectangles and about fifty different fabrics, mostly with hearts on them ) . It always makes me smile when I bring it out; I love how it plays off of the black furniture that we have in the room.
The second is a little project I did yesterday for our dinner table. A ‘carnation chandelier’ ( the idea came out of a magazine ) which turned out lovely with all the candles lit. That is until just as we were through with dinner and I was clearing the plates, I knocked over a full glass of red sparkling wine which really did a number on the antique linen cloth 😦 , but I think I can save it.
(The wine by the way was a wonderful Australian sparkling Fox Creek ‘Vixen’ that was a beautiful compliment to the lamb chops with basalmic & black cherry sauce. )
I did get a call in the middle of cooking from work, but I was able to beg off and go in really early this morning for a few hours, and get everything done there. There are some things I won’t miss at all about this job. Supposedly I am caught up for the next few days. I’ll know for sure when the phone doesn’t ring.
My foot is better, but still darned sore. I miss walking – as does Sunny. She’s about to climb the walls, I think.

Very romantic
The setting for dinner is gorgeous and the carnation chandelier inspired! The quilt is a beautiful work of love. You’re keeping romance alive and my guess is you had a wonderful Valentine’s Day.
Re: Very romantic
Thanks! We did have a really nice day. We made a concious decision early on together, to keep some things really important. Valentines Day and our anniversary are two of those days. No big gifts, but a focus on where we are and the road we’ve traveled on thus far is the topic of the day. It’s important to the both of us that we work at making sure that this is our last relationship, ( and it helps that Richard is a somewhat goofy romantic at heart ).
Looks like you guys had a nice dinner- too bad about the wine (and the tablecloth!). I’m assuming you couldn’t find the ‘La Luna’ stuff? Or was the Vixen recomended as better?
I couldn’t put my hands on the La Luna, due to the time crunch; though oddly there is another La Luna out of Napa valley that they have at Costco ( pinot noir, or something ). While there on wednesday, I did find a bottle of Nora (Spain) 2005 Albarino ($12) that you were talking about, so I picked it up.
the ‘Vixen’ was recomended to go with ribs and such, and it was really yummy & not too sweet with the lamb chops – I would definately buy it again, at $20, not tooo pricey. I will keep my eyes out for the La Luna though.
I hope you did something nice for Megan………
M didn’t get home until 9:30, so we didn’t get to do much but watch the final episode of The Wire season 1.
Funny about the Nora- that’s the one that first got me hooked on Albarinos- it was a glass pour at Dandelion, and I loved it- I’d have a glass or two with dinner many nights before going home. I’ve had a few better since then, but like I said, it’s a small reigon and a select sort of grape, so they all end up tasting pretty much the same. Haven’t seen it around recently, though- perhaps I should take a look at Costco!
